The Volta Regional Minister has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Mariama Gbemu, a 31-year-old road worker who tragically lost her life in an accident along the Dzodze-Penyi section of the Big Push Road Project. Accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, representatives from the Regional Highways Authority, local assembly officials, the project contractor, and constituency executives, the delegation offered their heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family during this difficult time.
Before meeting with the bereaved family, the Minister and his entourage paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Dzodze-Penyi, Togbi Dadzi V. The Paramount Chief warmly welcomed the delegation and personally led the team to the residence of the late Mariama Gbemu, reinforcing the community’s shared grief and support for the family.
Demonstrating immediate support, the Regional Minister presented GH¢5,000 to the family to assist with the upcoming funeral arrangements. In addition, he provided an extra GH¢5,000 dedicated strictly to the welfare and future needs of the late worker’s surviving children, assuring the family that the local authorities share in their deep sorrow.
Following the visit to the family, the delegation proceeded to the hospital to check on George Gadegbeku, one of the workers injured in the same incident, presenting him with GH¢5,000 toward his medical expenses and recovery. The Minister also announced that Augustine Azigi, the second injured victim who has since been discharged, will likewise receive GH¢5,000 to support his ongoing recovery efforts.
