Volta Region Partners with CAWST to Elevate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Standards

​The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has welcomed a high-level delegation from the Canada-based Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST) at his office. Led by Leanne Madjidi, CAWST’s Senior Manager of Global Learning and Development, and accompanied by Regional Environmental Health Officer Madam Stella Kumedzro, the team paid a courtesy call on the Minister to outline new collaborative efforts. The visit highlights a shared commitment to building healthier communities by significantly enhancing local capacity in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices across the region.

​At the core of this initiative is a comprehensive training program designed to equip local Environmental Health Officers with essential, hands-on expertise. Participants will receive practical instruction in drinking-water safety, water-quality testing, household water treatment, sanitation solutions, and hygiene promotion. By strengthening monitoring capabilities and technical know-how, the program empowers these front-line officers to effectively guide and support local communities in adopting sustainable, safer health standards.

​Hon. James Gunu expressed deep appreciation to CAWST for their vital support and investment in the region's public health infrastructure. He emphasized that building the technical proficiency of regional officers is a crucial step toward preventing waterborne illnesses and boosting long-term community well-being. The Minister reaffirmed the regional administration's full support for the partnership, highlighting it as a major stride forward in delivering safer water and better sanitation to residents across the Volta Region.
