2 min read

Stakeholders across various sectors gathered at the GNAT Hall in Ho for the national launch, sensitization, and screening exercise to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026. This year's campaign is themed "Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters."

Organized to boost awareness, combat stigma, and highlight the critical role of early detection, the gathering united health experts, government representatives, cancer survivors, traditional and religious figures, media personnel, civil society groups, and the public.

Key dignitaries included Dr. Williams Edrisu, Social Policy Adviser at the Office of the Vice President, who represented Vice President H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. Also present were the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey (MP), and the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Edem Kofi Kpotosu.

Welcoming guests to the event, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, highlighted the importance of fostering open dialogue around breast cancer. He urged the public to build supportive environments where individuals can seek credible information and care without fear of social stigma. While reaffirming the government's resolve to upgrade health infrastructure, Hon. Gunu emphasized that community initiative and individual responsibility remain essential to achieving better health outcomes. He advised residents to schedule routine medical checkups and act quickly if they spot unusual body changes.

Delivering the keynote address, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey reiterated that early screening and prompt medical intervention significantly increase the chances of successful treatment. She called on women and the broader public to prioritize regular breast screenings.

In addition to health talks and live screenings, the event featured inspiring stories from breast cancer survivors who detailed their experiences with diagnosis, therapy, and recovery. Their personal journeys offered hope to attendees while reinforcing the life-saving impact of seeking professional care early.

The Ho event forms part of a nationwide series of initiatives throughout October 2026 designed to drive public awareness, fight stigma, and encourage timely healthcare visits.
