​At the Volta Economic Forum held at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium of the Ho Technical University, Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, delivered a firm statement on the future of natural resource exploitation in the Volta Region. Addressing an audience of business leaders, policymakers, traditional rulers, and prospective investors gathered under the theme "From Opportunity Showcase to Investment Execution," the prominent traditional leader made it clear that while resource extraction is on the horizon, environmental destruction will not be tolerated. He assured stakeholders that as geological explorations progress and mineral deposits are unlocked, the Volta Region will pioneer a model of extraction anchored strictly in environmental sustainability, accountability, and community benefit. 

​Togbe Afede XIV's declaration serves as a proactive defense against the destructive wave of illegal small-scale mining popularly known as galamsey that has devastated water bodies, forest reserves, and agricultural lands across several regions of Ghana. Having previously characterized unregulated mining as a grave threat to national development, the Agbogbomefia reaffirmed that traditional authorities and local stakeholders in the Volta Region will enforce strict safeguards to prevent illegal operators from gaining a foothold. His pledge underscores a resolve to ensure that any future mining activities strictly adhere to legal frameworks, modern technical standards, and rigorous environmental protection protocols. 

​The stance outlined at the forum highlights a broader strategic vision for the region's economic rise, balancing industrial growth with ecological conservation. As the Volta Region positions itself to attract multi-sector investments spanning maritime logistics at Keta Port, commercial agriculture, and energy the traditional leadership is sending an unmistakable message to the global investment community. The region welcomes commercial enterprise and resource development, but only on terms that respect the land, safeguard local communities, and guarantee a clean, sustainable legacy for generations to come.
