Torgbui Tenuvi II Delivers Urgent Relief to Flood Victims in Ketu South

2 min read

Recent devastating floods have wreaked havoc across parts of Ghana’s capital and several communities in the Ketu South Municipality, displacing residents and disrupting daily life. The Duta Electoral Area within the Aflao Traditional Area has been among the hardest hit, with families losing homes, belongings, and livelihoods to the rising waters. In response to the crisis, traditional leader Akonta Felix Akakpo, known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, has stepped in with immediate humanitarian support.

While attending to other pressing engagements, Torgbui Tenuvi II directed a relief team led by his brother, Mr. Dynamic Akakpo, to distribute essential supplies to the most affected individuals. The initiative was carried out in close collaboration with the Ketu South office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), ensuring the aid reached those in greatest need. The relief effort targeted victims in Duta, Démadikope, Gakli, and Agbawoeme.

Items distributed during the exercise included 10 mattresses, 100kg of rice, 15 cartons of spaghetti, 10 cartons of sardines, 200 mosquito nets, 4 sacks of maize (equivalent to 240 bowls), 100 litres of cooking oil, and 150 bags of sachet water. These supplies are expected to provide immediate comfort and sustenance to families who have lost much of their property to the floods.

Torgbui Tenuvi II acknowledged that the relief materials represent only a temporary measure and not a lasting solution to the recurring flooding that plagues the area. He called for stronger government intervention and sustainable long-term strategies to protect vulnerable communities from future disasters. The gesture, he said, is his humble contribution to easing the immediate suffering of his people.

As the affected communities begin the process of recovery, Torgbui Tenuvi II offered words of encouragement, praying that God comforts and strengthens all those impacted during this challenging period. His timely intervention highlights the important role of traditional leaders in supporting state efforts during times of crisis.
