“There Has Been a Great Change in Terms of Infrastructural Development in the Volta Region” –Hon James Gunu

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu made the bold declaration during a recent JoyNews interview, underscoring the transformative progress in the region’s infrastructure under the current administration. Speaking as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s Resetting Ghana tour, Gunu highlighted how targeted investments are reversing years of stagnation and delivering tangible benefits to residents across the Volta Region.

The minister spotlighted major road projects as key drivers of this change. These include the completion of the Ho-Denu Road, rehabilitation works on the Eastern Corridor Road, and resurfacing of critical links such as Have-Hohoe and Dodo Pepesu-Nkwanta. Complementary feeder road upgrades in areas like Anyirawase-Bame-Kpeve and Mafi Kumasi are improving connectivity, reducing travel times, and stimulating local commerce, particularly cross-border trade with Togo.

Health and education sectors are also benefiting significantly from the ongoing initiatives. Plans to modernize the Ho Teaching Hospital and upgrade facilities at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) aim to enhance healthcare delivery and academic excellence. Additionally, the revitalization of Ho Airport, with provisions for commercial flights and a pilot training school, is set to boost tourism and economic activities in the region.

Further economic infrastructure developments, including the construction of a modern market at Aflao, are designed to empower local businesses and facilitate smoother trade operations. Gunu’s comments reflect the government’s commitment to addressing historical infrastructure gaps and fulfilling promises made to the people of Volta Region, positioning it for accelerated growth.
