South Tongu MCE Hosts Stakeholders for Launch of AquaCCop

Hon Victoria Dzeklo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for South Tongu, this morning successfully hosted a high-level community engagement session focused on the Nationwide Community Engagement on the Aquaculture Community Commercialisation Programme (AquaCCop). The event brought together key stakeholders, representatives of Members of Parliament, and leadership from the Fisheries Commission to discuss the rollout of this important national initiative. Local beneficiaries numbering 50 also participated, marking a significant step towards inclusive implementation at the grassroots level.

The gathering was graced by the Volta Regional Fisheries Director, Mr. William Agbenu, accompanied by senior ministry officials who provided expert guidance on the programme’s implementation strategy. Their presence underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that aquaculture development reaches every corner of the region effectively. Participants received detailed briefings on the operational framework of AquaCCop, fostering a shared understanding and collaborative spirit among all parties involved.

AquaCCop is a flagship initiative designed to significantly boost domestic fish production across Ghana. By promoting a cooperative model, the programme aims to empower local communities to establish and manage sustainable aquaculture enterprises. This approach not only targets increased fish output but also seeks to create viable business opportunities for residents, particularly in areas with suitable water bodies like South Tongu.

Central to the programme’s objectives are the strengthening of national food security and the development of resilient local economies. Through targeted support and technical guidance, AquaCCop will enable beneficiaries to transition from traditional practices to more commercial and sustainable aquaculture methods. This is expected to reduce reliance on imports, enhance nutritional standards, and generate employment within the fisheries value chain.
