Sod-Cutting Ceremony Ushers in New Infrastructure Era for Hohoe Municipality

2 min read

Hohoe Municipality is set to witness a historic milestone as dignitaries converge for the sod-cutting ceremony marking the commencement of construction works on two long-awaited bridges. The event, scheduled for Monday, 6th July 2026 at 10:00 AM, will take place across the various project sites. This development brings renewed hope to residents who have endured years of hardship due to the absence of safe crossing points over the Wegbe-Akplamafu and Segbedeme bridges.

The bridges under construction are the Wegbe-Akplamafu Bridge, which will feature a double car lane as a major highway link, and the Segbedeme Bridge, designed with a single car lane. Leading the ceremony will be H.E. John D. Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, alongside Hon. James Gunu (Volta Regional Minister), Hon. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo (MP for Hohoe Constituency), and Hon. Prosper Kumi (Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe). Their collective presence underscores the government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure deficits in the region.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Hon. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo expressed profound joy over the project’s realization. He described the bridges as painful reminders of lives lost and livelihoods disrupted, noting that persistent advocacy, engagement, and prayers have finally yielded results. “The sod-cutting ceremony… marks the beginning of a safer, more connected, and more prosperous future for the people of Hohoe,” he stated, emphasizing that patience and faith have not been in vain.

This initiative signals the dawn of a new chapter for Hohoe, promising enhanced connectivity, improved road safety, and greater economic opportunities for surrounding communities. As construction begins, residents look forward to the completion of these vital links, confident that the best days of Hohoe are indeed ahead.
