Seven Ghana Police Officers Interdicted over Alleged ATM Extortion in Accra

1 min read

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven of its officers following their involvement in an alleged extortion scheme in Accra. The personnel, who were operating as part of a patrol team, reportedly intercepted a victim, demanded a sum of money, and coerced him into withdrawing the funds from a nearby automated teller machine (ATM) to hand over to them.

The interdicted officers have been identified as Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyarvi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman, and General Constable Bernard Amaoko. Step-down orders were issued immediately to ensure they do not interfere with internal protocols as administrative processes against them commence.

According to police administration, the interdiction will allow the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full, unhindered investigation into the incident. Assuring the general public of its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism within the service, the Ghana Police Service stated that appropriate sanctioning will be enforced once the outcome of the PPSB probe is finalized.
