The female nmates at the Sekondi Female Prison recently demonstrated their artistic abilities during an inspiring art competition themed “Talent Behind These Walls,” launched under the Think Prisons 360° initiative.
A total of five inmates participated in the contest, turning their personal stories, emotions, and imaginations into striking visual artworks. Each painter presented her finished piece to the audience, explaining the deep personal meaning and inspiration behind her work.
The event attracted prison leadership, officers, external stakeholders, and fellow inmates. Attendees included Acting Officer-in-Charge ADP Genevieve Hagan, senior and junior correctional officers, and representatives from the Ghana National Fire Service.
Speaking at the event, ADP Hagan encouraged the inmates to embrace their personal potential and apply their talents to positive pursuits. She emphasized that artistic expression plays a crucial role in boosting self-esteem, aiding psychological rehabilitation, providing valuable trade skills, and opening doors for post-release employment.
This program underlines the Ghana Prisons Service’s growing focus on using creative arts and practical skill development to empower, rehabilitate, and prepare inmates for a productive future.
