The Sekondi Prisons Complex has conducted a two-day training workshop on Ghanaian Sign Language (GhSL) for its staff, aiming to improve communication and foster a more inclusive correctional facility.
The workshop gathered participants from three facilities: the Sekondi Central Prison, Sekondi Female Prison, and Ekuasi Camp Prison.
Led by an educator from the Sekondi School for the Deaf, the sessions covered essential sign language fundamentals and basic conversational techniques.
Throughout the course, officers participated in hands-on practical exercises to practice key signs and everyday expressions.
Highlighting the vital role of inclusive communication, the trainer announced that participants would receive certificates of completion.
Officers expressed confidence that the newly acquired skills will enable them to interact more effectively with individuals who have hearing impairments.
