Road Works to Resume on Anlo AfiadenyigbaHavedzi Stretch as Government Releases Funding

Residents of Anlo Afiadenyigba and Havedzi are set to receive long-awaited relief as the government prepares to remobilize contractors to the abandoned 10.3-kilometre road linking the two communities.

The announcement follows the Ministry of Roads and Highways’ receipt of over GH¢2.4 billion in fresh allocations to tackle priority road projects nationwide.

The road has remained in a deplorable state for years, with the situation recently highlighted by the tragic loss of a child’s life, which sparked renewed calls for urgent intervention from locals and transport operators.

Roads and Highways Minister, Kwame Agbodza, made the disclosure during a working tour of the Volta Region. He confirmed that his team had inspected the problematic section and agreed on immediate next steps.

“We have been to the location. The engineers and all stakeholders have agreed that we will conduct a fresh assessment and bring in a contractor to complete the stretch that runs through the lagoon area,” Agbodza stated.

He assured that the released funds would be managed efficiently to significantly reduce the hardships currently faced by commuters.

The project was originally awarded in 2013 under the previous NDC administration. Construction progressed to over 70 percent completion before stalling in 2016. The contract was later terminated under the NPP government and was never re-awarded, leaving residents to endure years of difficult travel conditions.

According to the Minister, the current administration is now prioritising the completion of this critical road to address the genuine concerns of the people in the area.
