The president of the Republic of Ghana earlier this week, payed a state visit to Jamaica. This is a calculated step towards bridging the gap between Africa and the Caribbean and unifying relations through trade.
On Thursday August 6, 2026 Jamaica sends farewell to the Ghanaian president as his four-day State Visit came to a close.
President Mahama was seen off at the Norman Manley International Airport by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, who also bade farewell to Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following a week of high-level engagements that further strengthened the longstanding partnership between Jamaica and Ghana.
President Mahama’s visit, which coincided with Jamaica’s Emancipation and Independence observances, featured bilateral talks, a Joint Sitting of the Houses of Parliament, a State Dinner, cultural engagements and discussions aimed at advancing cooperation across a range of priority areas for both countries.
