Police Arrest Five Suspects : Retrieve Firearms and Narcotics in Tamale Operation

​The Tamale Metropolis, officers from the Northern Regional Police Command’s Special Operations team, popularly known as "BLACK MARIA," have arrested five suspects. The targeted intelligence-led raid took place on Monday, September 21, 2026, at approximately 11:30 am in the Tamale Aboabo scraps area near the forest. The individuals arrested during the operation have been identified as Ibrahim Issahaku (39), Mohammed John (28), Mohammed Nawas (25), Mohammed Osman Awal (41), and Kwame Boateng (28). 

​A thorough search by the police team led to the retrieval of significant criminal exhibits and suspected illicit funds. At the residence of Ibrahim Issahaku, officers recovered two foreign-made pistols loaded with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, a parcel of suspected Indian hemp, and GH¢1,880.00 in cash. Additionally, officers discovered GH¢18,825.00 concealed inside a motorcycle belonging to Kwame Boateng at the ghetto, which authorities suspect to be proceeds from illegal drug sales. Other items seized at the scene included 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes, and three motorbikes. 

​The five suspects and all confiscated exhibits have since been transferred to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for comprehensive investigations and necessary prosecution. Speaking on behalf of the Regional Command, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe reaffirmed the police's commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations across the region to dismantle drug networks, curb illicit trafficking, and maintain safety within local communities.
