Newly Appointed Defence Minister Assumes Office, Receives Full Backing from Armed Forces

Ghana's Minister for Defence, Honourable Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, officially assumed duty at the Ministry of Defence on Monday, 17 August 2026, receiving a warm welcome and strong pledges of support from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) leadership.

​The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, led a high-level military delegation to welcome the new Minister. Joining the CDS were:

Chief of the Air Staff: Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong

Chief of the Naval Staff: Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing

Chief of Staff (General Headquarters): Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai

Acting Chief of the Army Staff & GOC Northern Command: Brigadier General Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo

​During the briefing, Lieutenant General Agyapong assured the Minister of the Military High Command's unwavering cooperation. He emphasized that the GAF remains fully dedicated to partnering with the Ministry to safeguard the nation’s security interests and carry out President John Dramani Mahama’s vision focusing on troop welfare, operational readiness, and robust national defense.

​In response, Hon. Gilbert Kenneth Adjei expressed his readiness to collaborate closely with the Armed Forces leadership and key stakeholders to advance the operational effectiveness and welfare of the GAF.
