NDC Gives Aspirants 5-Day Ultimatum to Tear Down Oversized Campaign Posters

2 min read

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern directive ordering all party members and candidates participating in its ongoing internal reorganisation exercise to downsize and relocate their campaign materials. The party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) warned that aspirants have exactly five days to comply with new regulations on campaign posters and banners or face strict disciplinary sanctions.

The decision follows growing concerns within the party's leadership regarding the excessive size and haphazard placement of promotional materials displayed in public spaces across the country. In a statement released on Friday, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey noted that the FEC officially deliberated on the issue during its meeting on Tuesday, October 6, identifying the need to restore order and discipline as the internal elections pick up momentum.

Under the new guidelines, campaign posters and banners are strictly capped at a maximum dimensions of five feet wide by eight feet high. Furthermore, display areas have been heavily restricted: publicity materials may now only be erected at official constituency offices, regional party headquarters, and designated election venues. Candidates are effectively banned from mounting promotional hoardings along major roads or public infrastructure.

Party leadership highlighted that the restrictions are crucial for creating a fair and equitable contesting environment for all candidates, regardless of their financial backing. By standardizing poster sizes and restricting placement areas, the party aims to curb money politics and ensure that less funded candidates are not drowned out by opponents with deeper pockets.

Emphasizing the party's role as the governing political organization, leadership stressed the importance of setting a standard for political decorum and fiscal modesty. The statement reinforced that as the party in power, the NDC must reflect restraint and avoid any public perception of extravagance or vanity, ensuring its conduct remains fully aligned with the values espoused by the Ghanaian electorate.
