The Ministerial Subcommittee on the Establishment of New Public Universities is paying a working visit to Ohawu Agricultural College this afternoon. The high-level delegation will inspect existing infrastructure, assess current academic and operational capacity, and engage key local stakeholders. This visit marks a crucial evaluation phase in the government's commitment to transforming the institution into a fully-fledged, specialized agricultural university.
The working visit directly builds on previous strategic engagements with the committee led by the venerable Professor Christian Amoako-Nuamah months ago. During those consultations, local leaders and education advocates presented a comprehensive case for upgrading the college. Establishing an agricultural-focused university at Ohawu aims to drive innovative research, modernize farming techniques across the country, and equip the next generation of youth with essential agro-technological skills to strengthen national food security.
This milestone is the result of persistent advocacy and dedicated collaboration among key regional stakeholders. Strong leadership and strategic interventions from the Volta Regional Minister, the Regional House of Chiefs, the Chiefs of Anloland, the Chiefs of Ketu North, and Regional Chairman Comrade Mawutor Agbavitor have proven instrumental in building momentum and keeping the vision at the forefront of the national development agenda.
Special gratitude goes to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, whose visionary leadership and keen interest have been critical in driving the project forward. As the subcommittee conducts its assessment today, local communities and educational leaders remain confident that this project will soon become a reality, ushering in a new era of agricultural excellence and economic empowerment for the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole.
