The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has confirmed significant funding allocations to the Ketu South Municipal Assembly under the current administration. Speaking at The Government Accountability Series Forum, the Minister outlined the substantial contrast in financial support provided to the region across different political tenures, highlighting the current government’s commitment to decentralization and local development through increased District Assemblies Common Fund allocations.
Highlighting past allocations, Hon. Mahama Ayariga noted that for the entire year of 2024 under the NPP regime, the Ketu South Municipal Assembly received 1.2m Ghana cedis. This baseline figure was presented to illustrate the financial constraints previously experienced by the assembly, setting up a clear comparison with the funding levels delivered under the subsequent administration.
The Minister emphasized a marked increase in disbursement during the following period under the NDC government. He stated that "Under the NDC Government, Ketu South District Assembly received an amount of 18m Ghana Cedis for the first 3 quarters of 2025. So for the first 2 quarters of 2026 plus the last quarter of 2025, Ketu South Received 21m Ghana Cedis respectively." This dramatic rise in financial support marks a major boost in resources made available directly to the municipality.
In detailing the impact of these disbursements, Hon. Mahama Ayariga attributed the substantial increase in funding directly to executive leadership and vision. He further stated that "We can all attest that these are President John Dramani Mahama’s efforts to making sure all Assemblies have enough funds to be able to drive infrastructural, social and economic development in our areas."
The confirmed funding reflects an ongoing strategy to empower local governance structures and accelerate development across districts nationwide. With Gh¢21 million delivered over the most recent quarters, the Ketu South Municipal Assembly is positioned to address key regional challenges, expand public infrastructure, and enhance socio-economic growth for its residents.
