Ahead of the planned demolition exercise aimed at curbing worrying flooding situations in parts of Accra, heavy security measures are being put in place to control the process. As authorities prepare to carry out the demolition operation, a tight security presence has been deployed at the Laboma Beach.
The operation follows a recent clean-up campaigns, desilting of drains and earlier demolitions carried out after the devastating June 29 floods that affected several parts of the capital. The Greater Accra Regional Security Council is leading the exercise respectively.
Security personnel, including police and military officers, were stationed around the area on Friday ahead of the exercise, restricting access to sections of the beach while officials coordinated preparations for the demolition.
The planned exercise is expected to target unauthorised structures within the enclave as authorities intensify measures to restore natural drainage channels and reduce the risk of flooding, particularly during the peak of the rainy season.
