Korle-Bu Maternity Department Advocates Exclusive Breastfeeding Campaign

The Breastfeeding Committee of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital recently hosted a community outreach program at the Tuesday Market in Korle Gonno, raising awareness among mothers, caregivers, and local residents about the vital role breastfeeding plays in infant health and development.

​Held under the theme "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works," the initiative focused on essential maternal and infant health topics, including exclusive breastfeeding practices, optimal maternal nutrition, effective latching techniques, and hygienic milk storage.

​Addressing attendees at the event, Principal Midwifery Officer Enid Kotey reiterated the critical need for six months of exclusive breastfeeding. She clarified that infants must receive only breast milk throughout their first six months of life without water or complementary foods except when specifically prescribed by a healthcare provider.

​The interactive session allowed community members to seek expert guidance from Maternity Department staff, clear up common myths, and gain practical insights into infant feeding.

​Through this outreach, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital renewed its dedication to advancing evidence-based breastfeeding practices and empowering mothers to ensure a healthy foundation for their children.
