Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, has issued a comprehensive update on ongoing efforts to manage flooding in the area. In a statement released on 3 July 2026, the MP detailed proactive measures being implemented to protect communities from the impacts of excess water accumulation.

As part of the flood mitigation strategy, the Kedzi-Azizadzi Floodgate is being opened today to facilitate the controlled discharge of excess water. This critical engineering intervention aims to reduce pressure on vulnerable zones and minimise further flooding across affected parts of the Keta Constituency. Authorities are closely monitoring the operation to ensure it delivers maximum relief while maintaining safety standards.

The MP commended the dedicated work of key stakeholders leading the response. Special recognition was given to the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Wisdom Seade, the technical team, and all emergency personnel working tirelessly on the ground. Their coordinated efforts have been instrumental in managing the situation and safeguarding lives and property.

Residents, particularly those in nearby communities, have been urged to remain calm, stay alert, and cooperate fully with emergency and technical teams. The statement emphasised the importance of heeding official instructions during this period to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly and effectively.

In closing, Hon. Gakpey expressed confidence in the collective resilience of the people of Keta, stating that together they will overcome the challenge. He concluded with a prayer for divine protection over the communities as recovery and mitigation efforts continue.
