IMF Praises Ghana’s Economic Recovery as Performance Beats Expectations

Ghana’s ongoing economic turnaround has been described as "quite impressive" by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative to the country, Dr. Adrian Alter. He noted that key macroeconomic metrics have surpassed the initial projections established under the IMF assisted program.

During an appearance on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with host Bernard Avle on Monday, August 24, Dr. Alter highlighted that the nation's financial rebound has progressed at a faster pace and with stronger results than first anticipated. He credited this positive trajectory to robust policy reforms introduced by the government, alongside helpful global economic factors most notably the rise in international gold prices.

Dr. Alter pointed out major improvements in economic stability, including a dramatic drop in inflation from over 50% down to under 5%, accompanied by a substantial rebuild of Ghana's international reserve buffers.

Following these successes under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program, the government is preparing to transition to the IMF’s Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) to help secure and maintain these gains long-term.
