Hon. Kpotosu Seeks Clarification from the Interior Minister on the Numerous Checkpoints on the Tema-Asikuma-Kpeve-Peki Road

2 min read

The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Edem Richmond Kofi Kpotosu, has raised concerns over the growing number of security checkpoints along the Tema–Asikuma–Kpeve–Peki highway. Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the legislator sought clarification from the Minister for the Interior regarding the rationale behind the numerous checkpoints mounted on the busy stretch of road.

According to the MP, many commuters, commercial drivers, and residents who regularly use the road have expressed concerns about the frequency of security stops. He noted that while security remains a national priority, the presence of multiple checkpoints on a single corridor has raised questions among road users about their necessity and effectiveness.

Hon. Kpotosu emphasized that the route serves as a major transportation link connecting communities in the Volta Region to other parts of the country. He indicated that travelers often encounter several checkpoints within relatively short distances, leading to delays and inconvenience, particularly during peak travel periods.

The legislator therefore requested a detailed explanation from the Interior Minister on the factors that informed the deployment of the checkpoints. He further sought to know whether the Ministry had undertaken any assessment to determine the impact of the checkpoints on traffic flow, trade, and movement of persons along the corridor.
