Hon. James Gunu engages the Deputy Comptroller-General (Operations) of the Ghana Immigration Service

2 min read

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has received the Deputy Comptroller-General (Operations) of the Ghana Immigration Service, Faisal Disu, and his delegation during a working visit to the Volta Region.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between regional authorities and security agencies in addressing operational challenges and improving service delivery at the country’s border posts.

The engagement follows concerns raised by the Regional Minister during a prior meeting with the Minister for the Interior, where, together with the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, issues of alleged disrespect and unprofessional conduct by some officers towards citizens and traditional authorities were highlighted.

These concerns underscored the need for renewed attention to professionalism and adherence to the core values of public service within the immigration sector.

The delegation embarked on a tour of key entry points across the region, including Sogakope, Akanu, Shia, and Asikuma. The exercise provided an opportunity to directly engage officers on the ground, reinforce standards of conduct, and sensitise them on the importance of respectful engagement with the public, especially in culturally sensitive areas where traditional leadership plays a significant role.

Hon. Gunu expressed satisfaction with the proactive steps taken by the Ghana Immigration Service, noting that such interventions are critical in restoring public confidence and strengthening institutional relationships.

He emphasized that security agencies must not only enforce the law but also embody professionalism and respect in their daily interactions with citizens and community leaders.

The Regional Minister further stressed that mutual respect between security personnel, chiefs, and residents is fundamental to effective service delivery and the overall security of the Volta Region.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure that border operations are conducted with integrity, discipline, and a strong sense of public responsibility.
