On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, hosted H.E. Liliana Gómez de Weston, the Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, alongside her delegation. Hon. Ahiafor received the diplomat at Parliament House on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for productive discussions on bilateral relations.
A primary focus of the meeting was enhancing ties between Ghana's Parliament and the Congress of Peru. Both parties discussed establishing a Parliamentary Friendship League designed to foster parliamentary diplomacy, exchange governance best practices, and encourage mutual collaboration.
In addition to legislative partnerships, the dialogue highlighted key socioeconomic sectors of shared interest, including:Expanding bilateral trade opportunities, Partnering on local manufacturing and value addition for cocoa products and joint efforts in drug enforcement and combating illegal mining.
Hon. Ahiafor reiterated Parliament’s commitment to building a strong working relationship with the Embassy of Peru to advance shared goals. To mark the visit, the delegation exchanged symbolic gifts, including a copy of the book Peru-Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation, by the Peruvian Embassy in March 2026.
