The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brigadier General Edward Awaribey, conducted a working visit to the 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN) at Michel Camp on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. The visit aimed to evaluate the unit's operational capabilities, assess troop welfare, and interact directly with personnel. Upon arrival, Brig Gen Awaribey received a comprehensive briefing from the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Enoch Rafik Wehkole Awudu, detailing the Battalion’s current operational posture, ongoing developmental projects, and key administrative requirements before embarking on a tour of essential installations.
Addressing the troops, Brig Gen Awaribey commended 1BN for its unwavering dedication and outstanding performance during Exercise STARLIGHT STRETCH. He emphasized that continuous training remains the backbone of military effectiveness, urging all ranks to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and physical fitness. Recognizing the demands placed on service personnel, the GOC particularly challenged commanders and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers to prioritize troop welfare and actively promote the use of counselling and psychological support services for those navigating personal pressures.
In response, Lt Col Awudu expressed deep gratitude to the GOC for his continuous leadership and support of the unit. Highlighting the Battalion's renewed commitment to its mandate, Lt Col Awudu presented a symbolic gift to Brig Gen Awaribey on behalf of the officers, men, and women of 1BN to mark the successful visit.
