GNFS Reaffirm Partnership with Korle Bu to Boost Hospital Safety and Emergency Response

​The Chief Executive of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, has reaffirmed the facility’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). Leading a delegation from the hospital’s Central Management Team on a courtesy visit to the GNFS leadership, Dr. Adam expressed gratitude for the fire service's continued support, including a recent donation of cleaning supplies to help maintain hygienic conditions across the hospital.

​To proactively mitigate fire risks, Dr. Adam highlighted several new safety measures being implemented at Korle Bu, including plans to expand firefighting infrastructure. The hospital is exploring the installation of additional fire hydrants at strategic locations to ensure prompt water access during emergencies. As a foundational step, a dedicated borehole has already been identified to serve as a reliable water source, with potential plans to develop further boreholes if the pilot proves successful.

​In response, the Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, praised the strong bond between both institutions and pledged the GNFS's ongoing technical assistance. However, she appealed to hospital management to accord priority medical attention to firefighters and other emergency responders injured or taken ill in the line of duty, particularly during critical emergency operations.

​Madam Sapong also proposed a new avenue of collaboration aimed at promoting staff welfare through regular healthcare support. She suggested establishing a formal arrangement with Korle Bu to facilitate periodic health screenings for GNFS personnel, ensuring that firefighters maintain the physical fitness required for their high-risk duties.

​The meeting concluded with both leadership teams expressing enthusiasm for deepened institutional synergy. Dr. Adam was joined by key executives including Director of Medical Affairs Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere and Head of Public Relations Mr. Mustapha Salifu, while Madam Sapong was accompanied by her deputy chief fire officers and Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander Mr. Rashid Nisawu.
