GNFS and Ghana Water Limited Partner to Strengthen Emergency Response Across Greater Accra

​The Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Rashid Kwame Nisawu, recently led a delegation of senior officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on an official visit to the Accra South management team of Ghana Water Limited (GWL). The primary goal of the engagement was to deepen cooperation between the two organizations to enhance public safety and streamline fire response efforts.

​Key discussions centered on securing a dependable water supply during firefighting missions, especially for large-scale or long-lasting emergencies. To address this, GNFS and GWL agreed to install new pillar hydrants at key public hubs, including the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mamprobi Polyclinic, and the busy Kasoa and Mallam markets. Furthermore, both teams will carry out a joint field inspection to map existing water points and spot areas that lack functional hydrants.

​To improve real-time coordination, GWL committed to sharing its comprehensive hydrant map across seven administrative districts and setting up a direct emergency hotline to fast-track water tanker refills during active fires. GWL management assured the Fire Service that major headways on hydrant installations will be achieved by late September 2026.

​In turn, ACFO II Nisawu advocated for stronger joint oversight to boost fire safety compliance in commercial centers, warehouses, and shopping malls. The GNFS promised to support GWL by conducting thorough fire risk audits, delivering staff safety training, and assisting in training selected security officers to serve as certified fire wardens.
