The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Ghana Battalion 5 (GHANBATT 5) has conducted a comprehensive medical outreach for residents of Banton and its surrounding communities. Organized as part of the battalion's Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives, the exercise was aimed at extending vital healthcare services to underserved populations, alleviating local health challenges, and strengthening community relations within the mission area.
During the outreach, a dedicated team of GHANBATT 5 medical personnel provided free health screenings, consultations, and essential medications to dozens of local residents, including women, children, and the elderly. Beneficiaries received treatment for common illnesses, preventative health education, and basic medical advice designed to foster long-term wellness in an area where access to quality healthcare infrastructure remains severely limited.
Community leaders and local residents expressed profound gratitude to the Ghanaian peacekeepers for their compassionate intervention and persistent efforts to improve living standards. Officers leading the initiative reaffirmed GHANBATT 5’s commitment to not only maintaining peace and security across the Abyei Administrative Area, but also actively supporting the physical well-being and social stability of the populations they serve.
