Ghana’s Economic Growth Leaves Over Half of Ghanaians Facing Poverty-World Bank Reports

Although Ghana’s economy is showing signs of recovery, a substantial portion of its citizens has yet to feel the benefits. According to the World Bank, 56.4% of Ghanaians continue to live in poverty, while income and living gaps between different regions of the country are actively worsening.

​Speaking in Accra at the release of the World Bank's 10th Ghana Economic Update, Country Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Robert R. Taliercio, pointed out a clear mismatch between macroeconomic success and everyday life. He noted that strong national economic growth has failed to deliver better standard-of-living conditions for the average household.

​Taliercio stressed that future growth must focus on creating sustainable jobs and direct opportunities so that all Ghanaians rather than a select few can share in the nation's financial recovery.
