Brigadier General Edward Awaribey, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Southern Command, toured Nkwanta in the Oti Region on Thursday, 27 August 2026, to inspect troops engaged in Exercise STARLIGHT STRETCH III.
The routine supervisory tour allowed command leadership to evaluate field progress, engage directly with deployed personnel, and reinforce core military values, including operational preparedness, strict discipline, and professional conduct.
To mark the culmination of the exercise, the Ghana Army launched a series of civil-military initiatives designed to foster strong community relations and enhance local living standards across the municipality.
Residents of Nkwanta benefited from a comprehensive medical outreach program that offered basic clinical care, health education, and essential medical supplies delivered directly to the Municipal Health Facility.
Alongside the healthcare initiative, military personnel joined hands with locals for a targeted sanitation drive. The clean-up effort focused on restoring public spaces while advocating for sustained environmental hygiene and community-led public health efforts.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Nkwanta, Brig Gen Awaribey highlighted that civil military collaborations reflect the Armed Forces’ broader mission to protect and uplift civilian populations. He lauded the troops for their steadfast commitment, urging them to fulfill all exercise targets while continuously cultivating trust with local communities to support regional stability.
