Female Worker Dies, Two Injured in Grader Accident on Dzodze-Penyi Road Project

​The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has officially announced the tragic death of a 31-year-old female construction worker, Miss Mariama Gbemu, on the Dzodze-Penyi section of the Big Push Road Project. The devastating incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, shortly after workers completed their usual morning safety briefings and dispersed to their respective posts. 

​According to preliminary reports from the Dzodze District Police Command, the accident happened when the operator of a heavy-duty grader stopped to pick up a colleague and inadvertently ran over Miss Gbemu and two other workers. While Miss Gbemu lost her life at the scene, her two injured colleagues were quickly rushed to the St. Anthony Catholic Hospital for urgent medical treatment. The deceased's body has since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy. 

​Police have commenced investigations into the incident, releasing the driver on bail while the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) tests the impounded heavy machine. Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family and co-workers, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki, reiterated the Assembly's commitment to worker safety and urged pedestrians and motorists along the Dzodze-Penyi corridor to exercise extreme caution near construction zones.
