Prof. Alfred Doku, Head of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, has advised the public to avoid drinking alcohol, highlighting that high intake inflicts severe damage on critical organs and overall health.

​He explained that the impact of alcohol extends well beyond cardiovascular damage, posing major risks to the liver, stomach, and esophagus. Prof. Doku urged people to prioritize their well-being by abandoning habits that heighten the risk of severe, life-threatening medical conditions.

​With alcohol-related illnesses remaining a growing public health issue, he emphasized the urgent need for better lifestyle choices. He noted that proactive prevention is the most effective way to safeguard cardiovascular function and general wellness, appealing to Ghanaians to limit or completely eliminate alcohol from their routines.
