Her Excellency Ambassador Ngozi Ukaeje, the Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission in Guinea-Bissau, conducted an official visit to the ESSMGB GHANCOY 5 Headquarters on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, to formally welcome the contingent to the mission area.
During her visit, Ambassador Ukaeje addressed the troops at a general durbar. She urged personnel to stay dedicated to their core mandate and refrain from participating in local political activities. The Ambassador stressed the importance of maintaining strict neutrality, professionalism, and adherence to the ECOWAS mandate, particularly as the country prepares for upcoming elections.
In her address, Ambassador Ukaeje thanked the troops for their dedication to the ESSMGB mission and advocated for greater female representation in peace support operations. She praised GHANCOY 5 for its planned Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives and encouraged the Combat Team Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Kwaku Danful, to expand these community projects to build strong relations with the local population.
Lieutenant Colonel Danful provided the Resident Representative with an operational, logistical, and administrative overview of the contingent. The visit concluded with a tour of the camp premises, giving Ambassador Ukaeje an opportunity to interact directly with the troops.
The Ambassador was accompanied on the visit by the Force Commander, Brigadier General Danjuma Reeba Dantani, along with Staff Officers from Force Headquarters and the ECOWAS Gender Advisor in Guinea-Bissau, Dr. Aisha Yanet.
