Council of State

The Council of State has expressed its deepest sympathy to individuals, families, and communities devastated by the recent floods, with particular concern for those in the Greater Accra Region and other vulnerable areas across the country. In a statement issued on June 30, the Council acknowledged the significant human and material losses caused by the flooding and highlighted the urgent need for collective action to support affected populations during this difficult period.

The Council commended the swift and dedicated response of various stakeholders involved in rescue and relief operations. This includes the Government, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), security services, health workers, and numerous volunteers who have worked tirelessly to save lives and provide essential aid. Their efforts have been crucial in mitigating the immediate impact of the disaster.

In addition to recognising these contributions, the Council praised President John Dramani Mahama for his decisive leadership in directing the release of funds to bolster NADMO’s operations and directly assist flood-affected persons. The statement emphasised the importance of sustained government support to ensure efficient relief distribution and long-term recovery for impacted communities.

Looking ahead, the Council called for stricter enforcement of planning regulations and improved sanitation measures to prevent future occurrences of such devastating floods. It further urged all citizens to refrain from dumping refuse into drains and waterways, stressing that individual responsibility and community vigilance are essential components of effective flood prevention strategies.
