Ghana’s Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, conducted an on-site assessment of the ongoing Dambai military base project on Friday, 7 August 2026, to review construction milestones.
During the visit, Lt Gen Agyapong charged the project contractor, FT Global Investment Limited, to accelerate work to guarantee a prompt handover. He emphasized that the new facility represents a crucial strategic response to evolving security concerns across parts of the Oti Region, most notably within the Nkwanta South constituency.
The CDS explained that the Dambai base will function as a tri-service installation featuring its own airstrip, expanding the operational footprint of the Ghana Armed Forces in the sector. Once operational, the post will sharpen the military's rapid-deployment capabilities, helping protect local communities, safeguard property, and preserve long-term regional stability.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Military High Command, Lt Gen Agyapong assured the contractor of uninterrupted backing and collaboration to keep site momentum steady through to completion.
Upon its official opening, the barracks complex will be christened Fort Anyidoho to honor Major General Henry Kwami Anyidoho (rtd), renowned for his distinguished service as Deputy Force Commander for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR).
