August 6 Crashe : 'No Lesson From This Tragedy Must be Forgotten' - Mahama

Speaking at a memorial service for the victims of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash, President John Dramani Mahama emphasized that the nation must retain every lesson learned from the disaster. He urged public officials to leverage this tragic loss to bolster institutional capacity, enhance safety protocols, and safeguard state personnel.

​President Mahama noted that leadership carries a profound moral obligation, as every decision directly impacts human lives. He asserted that true leadership requires taking full accountability for the security and well-being of those dedicated to national service.

​According to the President, the most meaningful tribute to the deceased is not erecting monuments of stone or bronze, but rather implementing concrete systemic reforms, upgrading safety measures, and prioritizing workforce welfare.

​The tragic incident claimed the lives of eight individuals:

Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation

Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Former Ashanti Regional Minister

Samuel Aboagye – Former NDC parliamentary candidate

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Ghana Armed Forces crew member

Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu – Ghana Armed Forces crew member

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Ghana Armed Forces crew member
