Anloga District Assembly Sets Record Straight on Bee Attack Victims’ Funeral Contributions

The Anloga District Assembly has strongly refuted social media allegations of mishandling funeral donations for victims of a recent bee attack incident, insisting it never took or withheld any funds intended for the bereaved families.

The Assembly addressed claims circulating on Facebook by one Freda Yayra Amable. The statement categorically denied any appropriation of donations, describing the allegations as misleading.

According to the release, funeral contributions received during the ceremony totaled GH¢28,529. These funds were not held by the Assembly’s management but were managed by the Headmaster and the School Management Committee (SMC) of the affected school.

The Assembly explained that during an account presentation, it was revealed that the school had incurred GH¢11,060 in funeral-related expenses. Of this, GH¢3,000 had been set aside as compensation for the SMC and funeral organizers. Management immediately directed that this amount should not be retained and must be refunded to ensure full accountability.

Despite initial resistance, the matter was escalated through the Public Relations and Complaints Committee and eventually reviewed by Togbi Zewu IV. The GH¢3,000 was eventually refunded and added to the Assembly’s own contributions before being handed over to the bereaved family.

These contributions were made in addition to facilitating support from the Keta Municipal Hospital for mortuary fees.

The Assembly emphasized that its intervention was solely aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability. It urged the public to verify information circulating on social media and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected families within its mandate.
