Commissioning of borehole project in Akatsi North

Residents in several communities within the Akatsi North District now have improved access to clean drinking water following the commissioning of 13 mechanised boreholes by the District Assembly. The initiative forms part of efforts to solve persistent water shortages that have affected many communities for years.

The commissioning exercise was led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, alongside the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe. The three-day programme, which ran from June 17 to June 19, saw the official handover of the water facilities to beneficiary communities and institutions across the district.

Communities including Hanyiwe, Kpohe, Kpeduhoe, Metsrikasa, Atsata-Bame, Korve, Agormor-Agado, Avega, and Avevoe, as well as educational institutions such as Ave Senior High School and Ave Technical Institute, were among the beneficiaries. The projects are expected to significantly reduce the burden residents face in accessing potable water.

The commissioning ceremonies attracted large crowds, with residents celebrating the development through music, dancing, and expressions of gratitude. Many described the projects as a major relief after years of struggling with inadequate water supply.

Speaking during the events, Hon. Katamani emphasized the Assembly's commitment to improving living conditions in the district. He encouraged community members to protect and maintain the facilities to ensure their long-term functionality. To support proper management, Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Committees were also inaugurated to oversee the maintenance and sustainable use of the boreholes. The projects are expected to enhance public health and improve the overall quality of life for thousands of residents in Akatsi North
