The Armed Forces Supplies and Transport Training School (AFSTTS) in Burma Camp has officially opened Driver Refresher Course 1-2026 for 32 drivers selected from various units under the Northern Command. The comprehensive 14-week program is designed to enhance the professional practices of military drivers, foster road safety awareness, and instill rigorous discipline behind the wheel in a direct effort to reduce rampant road traffic accidents across the service.
Serving as the Guest of Honour, the Acting Assistant Commandant of the Tri Service Training School at the Training and Doctrine Command, Colonel Michael Mawuena Edem Yao Adzo, highlighted the urgent objective of the training. He stated that the Military High Command remains deeply concerned by the recent surge in traffic accidents involving military vehicles. Colonel Adzo identified driver conduct specifically non-compliance with traffic rules, speeding, fatigue, and disregard for road signs as critical areas requiring immediate reform.
To address these vulnerabilities, Colonel Adzo outlined a broad curriculum covering Defensive Driving Techniques, Vehicle Maintenance, Stress Management, Drug Use in Driving, Driving Etiquette, Road Traffic Accident Reporting, Convoy Operations, Road Act and Legislation, and key General Mechanical Principles. He urged the student drivers to engage actively in both theoretical instruction and practical exercises to sharpen their judgment, improve road discipline, and safeguard human lives alongside state assets.
The opening ceremony underscored a unified institutional commitment to improving road safety standards across all operations. Also present at the event were the Commanding Officer of AFSTTS, Lieutenant Colonel Bernice Asantewaa Darkwah, along with senior instructors from the training school, who will oversee the 32 drivers throughout their intensive training over the next 14 weeks.
