Acting Defence Minister Opens Newly Completed Barracks - Burma Camp

On Wednesday, 5 August 2026, Honourable Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Acting Minister for Defence and Minister for Finance officially opened the newly built Butler Barracks and Offices Complex at Burma Camp.

The facility provides contemporary living quarters, administrative spaces and training areas for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Central Band, the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) and the School of Ordnance.

In his keynote remarks, Hon Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson praised the Military High Command and the Ministry of Defence for the commitment and professionalism shown in completing the project. He observed that the finished Barracks would enhance operational effectiveness and raise living standards for service personnel.

The Acting Defence Minister further restated the Government’s resolve to finish other major defence initiatives, among them the Afari Military Hospital, while adopting sustainable methods of military infrastructure development.

Brigadier General Jonas Wiafe, Director of Engineer Services (DES), outlined the project background. He explained that the work had been carried out to move the Armed Forces Central Band, the Headquarters of the Central Ordnance Depot and the School of Ordnance from their previous sites along the El-Wak–37 corridor into modern, purpose-designed premises.
