Patrick Kwesi Afeavo declares bid for NDC Deputy Volta Regional Youth Organizer

Patrick Kwesi Afeavo, an NDC youth activist, party communicator and grassroots organiser, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of Deputy Volta Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Afeavo, who has been active at various levels of the party’s youth structures, says his decision to contest is driven by a desire to contribute to building a stronger, more organised, united and responsive youth wing capable of effectively representing the interests of young people across the Volta Region.

In his declaration, Afeavo said his journey through the party’s grassroots and youth structures had prepared him for the responsibility he is seeking.

“From the branch to TEIN, from the regional structures to the National Youth Wing, my journey has prepared me for this moment of service,” he stated.

He has served as a Branch Youth Organizer, a two-term TEIN President, and has worked closely with both the National Youth Wing and the Regional structures of the party, experiences he believes have given him a broad understanding of the opportunities and challenges confronting the NDC youth wing.

According to him, his decision is not motivated by personal ambition but by a commitment to service and a determination to help create opportunities for young party members.

“I am ready to work. I am ready to listen. I am ready to organise. Above all, I am ready to serve,” Afeavo said in his declaration.

A youth wing built on unity and organisation

Afeavo says his vision is to help build a youth wing that is “united in purpose, organised in action, and empowered for the future.”

He believes the Deputy Regional Youth Organizer must be accessible to constituency and branch-level youth structures and must work closely with the leadership of the youth wing to strengthen coordination across the region.

“I seek to contribute to building a youth wing that is stronger, more organised, more united, more inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our young people,” he said.

His campaign is expected to focus on grassroots organisation, youth empowerment, capacity building and strengthening the structures through which young people participate in the affairs of the party.

Focus on constituency youth structures

A key component of Afeavo’s proposed agenda is the strengthening of youth structures in all 18 constituencies in the Volta Region.

He has proposed support for the establishment and strengthening of Youth Secretariats across the constituencies, arguing that a well-organised youth wing at the constituency level would provide a stronger foundation for mobilisation, communication and party activities.

He has also proposed the establishment of a Volta Regional Youth Wing Fund, as well as financial support for constituency youth wing secretariats.

Under his agenda, he has proposed GHS 10,000 for every constituency youth wing secretariat, alongside initiatives aimed at improving the capacity and welfare of youth leaders.

Investment in youth leadership

Afeavo’s proposed programme also places significant emphasis on capacity building.

He has outlined scholarship opportunities for constituency youth leaders, annual capacity-building workshops and, particularly during election years, quarterly capacity-building programmes designed to equip youth leaders with the skills required for effective political organisation and mobilisation.

He has further identified the need to advocate and lobby for employment opportunities for young party leaders, particularly those who continue to contribute to the party’s activities at the grassroots.

For Afeavo, the youth wing must not only mobilise during elections but must remain relevant and responsive to the aspirations of young people throughout the political cycle.

A grassroots campaign

The declaration comes as interest grows around the leadership of the NDC youth wing in the Volta Region ahead of the party’s internal elections.

Afeavo is positioning himself as a candidate with experience spanning the branch, constituency, TEIN, regional and national levels of the party.

His campaign is expected to place considerable emphasis on grassroots engagement and direct interaction with constituency youth leaders and delegates across the region.

He says his approach will be centred on service rather than personality, stressing the importance of collective effort.

“It is always about us, not him.”

Afeavo is also expected to campaign under the broader message of service, unity, organisation and empowerment, with his supporters promoting the theme of a new generation of youth leadership for the Volta Region.

“A new dawn beckons”

Declaring his intention to contest, Afeavo called on party members and delegates to support a vision that places the collective interests of the youth wing above individual interests.

He said he believes “a new dawn beckons” for the NDC youth wing in the Volta Region and that the time has come to build structures that are strong enough to support the party at the grassroots while creating meaningful opportunities for young people.

His campaign slogan, “A new servant emerges,” reflects his stated commitment to leadership through service.

As the race for the Deputy Volta Regional Youth Organizer position takes shape, Patrick Kwesi Afeavo’s declaration adds another voice to the conversation on the future direction of the NDC youth wing in the region.

With experience at the grassroots, within TEIN, and at the regional and national levels, Afeavo says he is offering himself not simply as a candidate, but as a servant ready to work, listen, organise and serve.
