Ketu North MP Edem Agbana Demands Full Disclosure from GES Over Prospectus Ghana Deal

​The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Edem Agbana, has mounted intense pressure on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to publish its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prospectus Ghana Limited. His call follows a clarification released by the Education Service regarding the marketing and sale of educational products in basic and senior high schools across the country. Reacting to the statement, the lawmaker argued that the official explanation raises far more questions than answers and leaves key concerns about the nature and scope of the corporate agreement entirely unaddressed.

​Agbana challenged the narrative surrounding the partnership, questioning why Prospectus Ghana created the widespread impression that it possessed an exclusive mandate to introduce or impose its items on parents and students if the purchases were truly optional. He pressed the Service to disclose whether other educational vendors are subjected to similar MoU requirements before accessing schools, demanding to know the official approval process and which other entities have received identical authorization. He noted that if no such requirements exist for other sellers, the GES must explain why a special MoU was deemed necessary in this particular instance.

​To protect guardians and ensure fairness, the Ketu North MP urged the GES to issue an explicit, unambiguous directive to school heads and parents confirming that buying from Prospectus Ghana is strictly voluntary. He emphasized that if the vendor exceeded the boundaries of its signed agreement, the Service must publicly acknowledge the breach and enforce appropriate corrective action. He warned that institutional opacity and unchecked corporate access within public schools severely erode public confidence in government agencies.

​Calling for immediate administrative transparency and accountability, Agbana cautioned that the reputation of the country's education management system hinges on how such commercial partnerships are handled. He stressed that parents and students deserve clear guidance free from commercial pressure or implied coercion. The lawmaker concluded his reaction with a direct plea to the management of the Ghana Education Service: "We need transparency. We need accountability. We need clarity. Dear GES, please wake up."
