Interior Minister Refers to Numerous Checkpoints on the Tema-Asikuma-Kpeve-Peki Road as a Result of Persistent Robbery

Responding to concerns raised by Ho Central MP Hon. Edem Richmond Kofi Kpotosu, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak explained that the numerous checkpoints mounted along the Tema–Asikuma–Kpeve–Peki road are primarily a response to persistent robbery incidents recorded on the highway and surrounding areas. The Minister made the remarks on the floor of Parliament while addressing the concerns raised by the legislator.

According to Hon. Muntaka, security agencies have identified the corridor as one of the routes where criminal activities, particularly highway robberies, have posed significant threats to travelers. He noted that the checkpoints form part of broader security measures aimed at deterring criminals, protecting road users, and ensuring rapid response to incidents.

The Minister stated that intelligence gathered by security agencies over the years has informed the deployment of personnel at strategic locations along the route. He stressed that the checkpoints are not intended to harass motorists but rather to provide a visible security presence capable of preventing and responding to criminal activities.

Hon. Muntaka further assured Parliament that the Interior Ministry continually reviews security operations across the country to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. He added that where necessary, adjustments are made based on prevailing security conditions and intelligence assessments from the field.

The Interior Minister therefore appealed to the public to cooperate with security officers stationed at the checkpoints, emphasizing that their presence has contributed to crime prevention and the protection of lives and property. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening security on major highways while working to improve the travel experience of citizens.
