GES Races Against Time to Submit Promoted Teachers'Payroll Data Ahead of 4 PM Deadline

2 min read

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has expressed strong optimism that the Service will meet the strict 4:00 p.m. deadline on Monday to process and submit the details of all newly promoted teachers. Speaking amid an ongoing national teachers' strike, Prof. Davis assured stakeholders that administrative teams are working around the clock to compile and compile the comprehensive master list. "We are doing everything possible to meet the deadline," he stated, highlighting the government's commitment to swiftly resolving the procedural bottlenecks that triggered the industrial action.

The submission of the updated teacher promotion data to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) is a critical bottleneck in ending the strike, which has paralyzed academic activities nationwide. Teacher unions including NAGRAT and GNAT have consistently demanded proper salary placements, payment of accrued promotion arrears, and the conclusion of outstanding collective bargaining agreements. By consolidating the promotion records into a single verified master list, the GES aims to bypass past administrative delays while preserving payroll integrity, paving the way for CAGD to adjust teachers' compensation accordingly.

While Prof. Davis noted that the final migration onto the electronic payroll system ultimately depends on the CAGD's processing speed, he reaffirmed the Service's dedication to protecting teacher welfare and minimizing further disruption to the school term. Educational observers and parents are keeping a close watch on Monday’s deadline, as a successful submission could serve as the vital breakthrough needed to bring striking educators back to the classroom.
