GES Boss Warns School Heads Over Charging Illegal Fees Before Admitting Students

​The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to school administrators and teachers charging unauthorized fees, including admission charges and extra levies. Addressing growing concerns over corrupt billing practices, the service directed all school heads to desist immediately from collecting any unapproved payments from parents and guardians. GES emphasized that public basic and senior high education policies remain structured to shield families from arbitrary financial demands.

​Speaking on the issue, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, stressed that the service will enforce a zero-tolerance policy against offenders. He cautioned that any school head or teacher caught taking illegal fees will face severe sanctions in strict accordance with GES rules and regulations. Prof. Davis urged administrators to uphold integrity and adhere strictly to official guidelines governing school administration.

​The warning comes as the service steps up monitoring efforts to protect parents from financial exploitation during admission and registration periods. GES is encouraging the public and affected parents to report any instances of extortion directly to educational directorates for swift action. Education officials hope these stringent measures will curb illegal collections and ensure equitable access to public education across the country.
