Asuogyaman Model School Concept Adopted to Help Eliminate Over 10,000 "Schools Under Trees" Nationwide

​The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, joined Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, on Monday, September 14, 2026, to commission six newly completed, modern basic school classroom blocks across the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region. The newly handed-over facilities located at South Senchi, Tortebo, Adome, Aboasa, Asempanaye, and Asikuma were jointly financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and the MP’s share of the Common Fund. Designed to significantly upgrade basic education infrastructure, the projects aim to create conducive learning environments and raise educational standards within these beneficiary communities.

​Speaking at the event, the Education Minister commended the collaborative funding model utilized by the MP and the local assembly, officially announcing the government’s adoption of the "Asuogyaman Model School" framework to be replicated in districts across the country. He emphasized that local initiative and targeted infrastructure investment are critical to bridging the rural-urban education gap, praising the Asuogyaman constituency for setting a benchmark in efficient community-level project delivery.

​The adoption of the model forms part of a broader, ambitious national strategy as the government actively pursues a $200 million funding package aimed at eliminating more than 10,900 "schools under trees" and dilapidated basic structures nationwide. By scaling this project framework across Ghana, officials hope to accelerate the replacement of makeshift learning shelters with modern, permanent classroom blocks, ensuring every Ghanaian child has access to safe and dignified educational facilities.
