Alert: Over 100 Secret Illegal Entry Points in Volta Region Exposed – Is Ghana’s Border Security Collapsing?

1 min read

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has dropped a bombshell, revealing more than 100 unauthorised entry points plaguing the Volta Region and sparking serious national security fears. These hidden routes are allegedly facilitating undocumented crossings, smuggling, and other illicit activities right under the nose of authorities.

Despite the region’s reputation for peace, the sheer number of illegal crossings has raised red flags, prompting urgent calls for intensified patrols and additional checkpoints. Currently, only a handful of inland checkpoints operate in the area, leaving vast stretches vulnerable.

The Ghana Immigration Service has responded by deploying more officers to the eastern frontier, but critics argue that much more needs to be done to seal these porous borders effectively. Communities near the Togo border are particularly on edge about potential risks.

Traditional and religious leaders in Ho were briefed on the alarming situation during a high-level engagement, with promises of collaborative action to curb the undocumented movement of foreign nationals.

As authorities scramble to address this ticking time bomb, the exposure of these 102+ illegal routes has ignited heated debates about border management and the urgent need for stronger enforcement to protect Ghana’s sovereignty.
