AKAST Relieved as GETFund Completes Long-Abandoned 12-Unit Classroom Block

A major relief has swept through Akatsi Senior High Technical School (AKAST) following the official completion and handover of a beautiful 12-unit classroom block to the school management. The journey to this milestone began back in 2010 under the tenure of the second Headmaster, the late Mr. E.L.D. Nuworkpor, as a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) initiative. However, severe financial constraints stalled the project for years, leaving it bouncing between different contractors until the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) intervened, absorbed the project, and provided the necessary funding to bring it to completion.

​Receiving the newly completed edifice, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Kenneth Adevu, expressed immense gratitude and pledged that the management would put the facility to maximum use to enhance teaching and learning. He used the occasion to appeal to GETFund and the government to urgently expedite work on other long-standing stalled projects within the school. Specifically, Mr. Adevu highlighted a two-storey administration block and another 12-unit classroom block, both of which have been languishing under construction for over eight years.

​Emphasizing the intense pressure on the school’s existing infrastructure, the Headmaster noted that AKAST still requires an additional 18-unit classroom block and a new boys' dormitory to comfortably accommodate its growing student population. According to him, securing these critical facilities is the only way the school can get the needed breathing space to fully transition back to a single-track academic calendar. This infrastructure push aligns with the government's broader policy goal to completely eliminate the double-track system across all senior high schools nationwide by the 2027/2028 academic year.
